Pregnant Onion |
|
Pregnant onion, Ornithogalum caudatum, I used to call this arguably the world's most useless plant. However, I have been informed that indeed it does have medicinal uses. They can be used as poultices. You learn wonderful new things every day. They are cute plants and they are very hardy. They really are lillies, as are onions and garlic. They can be growm from seed, but the reason they are called pregnant is that new bulbs pop out of the sides of the main bulb above ground. They make a big lump like a pregnant belly before they come out. Haven’t found a source for this one yet. I used to have seed but during one of my recent moves they got lost. So, I’ll let you know when I find a source. |
