Welcome to the Elizabethian Garden. It’s spring again and a new year in the new garden. The excitement for this year includes a lack of seed stock for sale. I had a heavy freeze and a pack rat attack while I was out of town so I can’t offer any seed this year, until further notice. Also I’ve added the Beth-Blog. It’s my contribution to blogomania. Originally, this site started out as a catalogue of my garden, which contains many classic cottage garden plants. Most of the plants are or have been considered medicinal and almost every herb goes in and out of favor over time. I especially like plants which are politically sensitive. For a little more on my somewhat unorthodox views on the politics of gardening check out the link to Phytophobia. The best list of contents is the Latin Index. The search function is very useful too. While I do not grow some of the herbs I’ve written about, I feel they are worth mentioning at least in their historical context. The site, like the garden has grown and changed over the years. Like the garden, I’m continuously adding to the site. I now have no varieties of seed for sale. I’m hoping to fix that soon, but in the meantime please follow the links to my favorite suppliers. Thanks for visiting. |

I know. I know. You probably think I spelled Elizabethan wrong. But, in fact, I am Elizabeth Dorothy Taylor, not the Queen of England. So to distinguish my garden from anything royal whatsoever I have included the extra i. Ergo Eliza Bethi Dot Taylor and the Elizabethian Garden. This page originally started out as my garden page. But over the years it's grown into something more of a book. There are many links to suppliers of seed and plants. There is also some advertising. That's how I pay the bills and can keep this site online. No, I don't make all my money selling things from my garden. The deer eat far too much for me to turn a profit from the plants themselves, at the current juncture. However, the garden provides invaluable knowledge and wonderful photos. Eventually, I will be able to fence the five acres we're on. But for now, I'm an information broker not a plant dealer. Feel free to browse any of the links or click the pictures. All of them lead to great web sites or nice pictures. Some link to services I provide. Many are to other people's companies. I've tried to source all the plants I've listed, though this is an ongoing process. I have links to many successful home garden businesses who can not only supply you with seeds, plants, and advice but inspire you with their successes. If any of the links don't work, please let me know. There are many herbs described in here now that I currently grow. Some I have never grown, but that are of interest nonetheless. Many, I am not currently growing but have grown. I've included many pictures. As I take more I will post them. This site is constantly growing, like my garden. In some ways this is more of an E-Garden than a real garden. The real garden exists but experiences from many gardens and many years have been compressed into this one website. My herb business revolves around the exchange of herb and garden information and providing the tools to make a home based garden business work. Coming soon is The Elizabethian Garden E-Book. Details to be will be posted here shortly. |
